Reflection

  • Global Perspective:

From this global learning experience, my global perspective has grown and been molded into a better version of myself. I believe in life you never really know everything, but you can keep learning or relearn new life skills. From this portion of my life, I have discovered that I am a team player. And that placing yourself into someone else's shoes shows you a different perspective, rather than understanding it without experiencing it. I was raised to always respect others no matter who they were or where they come from. We're all human beings at the end of the day.

From every global experience, I have learned to listen more and speak less. After all, we were born with two ears and one mouth. During my internship at International Rescue Committee, I observed and learned from my supervisor and his colleagues on what it was to take others point of view and assumptions into consideration when making a decision. Whether it was from inside the office, interviews with different clients, to planning events, etc. As the saying goes, two heads are better than one.

  • Global Awareness:

During this journey, my global awareness has opened my eyes to more issues that are happening around the world. From my global learning courses , to my global learning internship, and to the 1 point activity events. I've always believed that everything is like a dominoes effect, eventually one event or one issue can be seen later on in another country or city. Because it is like that saying "monkey see, monkey do" and unfortunately that is true. Any object, subject, or person I see or hear about now, I think about how it is going to create a ripple affect.

From one of my global learning courses, I am more aware of the problems in our oceans. And how we can all be affected by the water pollution and decreasing populations of various sea animals, however we do very little to help because at the end of the day money is one of the issues. People have not realized that we are all one, and when one thing is affected eventually it will start to spread. With being involved in this Global Learning Medallion program, I have learned to focus on how the smaller things affect the bigger picture. My global awareness perspective has now expanded.

  • Global Engagement:

As a global citizen, I believe we owe it to ourselves, to others and everything around us to do our part. Whether it is big or small, anything can make a difference. In order to make our world a better place and to better our future generations to come. I believe united, we can achieve all things imaginable. Change always starts with you.
